Flash Catalyst sample recreated with Produle

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

Adobe Flash Catalyst is an interaction design tool which was recently released as a Public Beta. From my initial impressions, it seems to be an awesome software for creating interactive prototypes for flex. Though one of the use cases of Produle is for creating UI for web services, Both these tools behave differently and address different problems. However I tried to recreate one of the samples made with Flash Catalyst and Flash Builder 4 mentioned in adobe devnet. Click here for that tutorial. The Produle version of the application (”Employee Directory”) is embedded below. It uses PHP for communicating with the database and to return XML, whereas the UI and Data Service connection was done in Produle.

Why we re-labeled our service

Monday, June 1st, 2009

If you are a frequent visitor to our site, you should have recently noticed the word “widgets” taking more prominence.  This is because we have re-labeled our web service from “Interactive flash applications” to “Flash Widgets”.   The main reason behind this change is that many of our visitors tend to skip the “interactivity” word and associate flash applications with animations and banners which isn’t. We believe that “Widgets” are best suited for the type of projects you can build with produle. However this is only a label change as part of our product strategy and it does not affect the way you create applications in Produle. Whether naming your finished application as widget, flash app, website, dashboard, web service app - its your own call!

3,2,1 - Launching Produle…

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

We are glad to announce that Produle is now open for business. This web based service for creating interactive flash applications was first announced as a preview on February this year. After 3 months, the preview program ended recently this month. We thank all our preview users for giving invaluable feedback about the product.

During this period, the product has seen tremendous change especially in terms of usability. We will continue to hear your thoughts and make progress.

As mentioned in the signup page, the service is available in free and premium plans. The premium plans will become functional once our payment integration is complete which would be announced when ready.

If this service is of interest to you, go ahead and give it a spin!

Align operations added to editor

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Align operations are now found in the Top Menu of the Composer. This helps to position a set of components to the left, right, top or bottom similar to what you find in an image editor. You can select a set of components either by mouse or by using pressing the SHIFT key. After selection, they can be uniformly aligned by choosing the respective align operation from Menu->Align buttons.

Access Produle from your Desktop

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

While Produle brings in the technology to create and edit flash apps right from your browser from anywhere, traditional users are more comfortable launching and interacting with applications using icons rather than URL. Also desktop apps have the advantage of having more screen real estate which is vital especially for users with lower screen resolutions.

Here comes Mozilla Prism, an awesome way to launch and run web apps just like they were installed in your PC or Mac. You can view the “Getting Started” Video from  http://prism.mozilla.com/started/ and download Prism from here. Then unzip the archive and run prism.exe. Enter - http://app.produle.com for the Produle App and you might want to use the icon given above.
